Christian Baldini, music director of the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra, guest conducts the Orquesta Filarmonica de Buenos Aires on March 19 in a program titled “A Night in Vienna,” showcasing waltzes, polkas, and overtures by the Strauss family. The concert takes place in Parque Centenario’s brand new Eva Perón Amphitheater, located in the Caballito district of Argentina’s capital city, with an expected audience of approximately 3,500 music lovers. The Buenos Aires Philharmonic is one of the finest and most prestigious orchestras in Latin America.It is the resident orchestra of Teatro Colón, and its list of guest conductors includes such luminaries as Pierre Boulez, Charles Dutoit, Zubin Mehta, and Lorin Maazel.
In an unrelated guest appearance, Professor Baldini will conduct the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players on April 25 and 26 at the Herbst Theatre. The program features Figures libres by French composer Philippe Hurel, who will join Baldini for a pre-concert lecture on April 25.
