Mariachi UC Davis will focus on the study and performance of
traditional mariachi music. Genres include Són Jalisciense,
Canción Ranchera, Corrido, Huapango, Bolero, Polka, Joropo,
Pasodoble, Vals Mexicano, and some contemporary mariachi
song-styles.
This course requires the ability to play one of the standard
mariachi instruments, which include violin, trumpet, guitarrón,
vihuela, guitar, harp, or guitarra de golpe as well as the
ability to sing at least at a choral level. Bring an instrument
if you have one!

The Bluegrass and Old Time String Band • Scott Linford, director
The UC Davis Bluegrass and Old Time String Band hosts its winter
quarter Campus Square Dance on Feb. 21 in the Vanderhoef Studio
Theatre in the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the
Performing Arts.
Directed by Scott Linford, the Band welcomes all to participate,
no square dance experience required.
The event begins at 5 p.m. and is free and open to all.
Oscar Garibay is recognized as a versatile musician. As a
classical instrumentalist, Garibay has won several concerto
competitions and toured internationally with various orchestras
and bands. In his role as a mariachi musician, Garibay has
performed on tour with the Grammy Award-winning Mariachi Los
Camperos. He has also accompanied critically acclaimed artists,
including Steven Sandoval, Shaila Dúrcal, Lupita Infante, Ana
Bárbara, Yuri, Beatriz Adriana, Juan Valentín, Leo Dan, and many
others.
