Director of Mariachi

Oscar Garibay, an acclaimed trumpet performer based in southern California, is recognized as a versatile musician. As a classical instrumentalist, Mr. Garibay has won concerto competitions and has internationally toured with several orchestras and bands. He has also accompanied critically acclaimed artists such as Steven Sandoval, Shaila Durcal, Lupita Infante, and Leo Dan.

Mr. Garibay is a pioneer in Mariachi education. Under the mentorship of Mariachi Sol de México director José Hernández, Garibay became one of the founding teachers of the Jose Hernandez Mariachi Academy, which thereafter helped Garibay become Santa Ana Unified’s first full-time Mariachi Director. Additionally, Garibay owns and directs three professional mariachis in Orange County. Garibay creates pathways for students interested in performing professionally by setting up a robust music program that extends from middle school to higher education.
