Dylan
Mulder is an award-winning industrial designer,
lecturer, consultant, and digital fabrication expert whose work
encompasses product design, feature films, and wearable
technology. Mulder will give a talk titled “Weaving Heritage and
High Tech: From Wearables to Movie Magic” for the UC Davis
Department of Design’s Alberini Family Speaker Series in Design.
Dr. Elizabeth “Dori” Tunstall, who received her
Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1999, is a distinguished design
anthropologist, celebrated author, visionary organizational
design leader, consultant and coach. Tunstall will give a talk
titled “Decolonizing Design: A Cultural Justice Guidebook” for UC
Davis Department of Design’s Alberini Family Speaker Series in
Design.
Digital artist and educator Nettrice Gaskins,
a pioneer in the use of artificial intelligence in artmaking,
will give a talk titled “Theory, Content and Style for the AI
Revolution” for the Alberini Family Speaker Series in Design in
the UC Davis Department of Design. Her free talk takes place
Nov. 3 at 4:30 p.m. at the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem
Museum of Art.
Ahmad Gharbieh, co-founder of Beirut Urban Lab, a
collaborative and interdisciplinary research space, will be the
fall 2022 guest for the Alberini Family Speaker Series in
Design at UC Davis. His talk is titled “Visualizing the Urban:
Experiments from Beirut.”
This talk will present a number of mapping projects by Beirut
Urban Lab and discuss strategies of visualizing episodic
geographies from the city’s recent past.
Sara Hendren is an artist, design
researcher, writer, and professor at Olin College of Engineering
who explores how our bodies interact with the built
environment. Furniture, kitchens, schools and city streets
all require humans to engage with assistive technology meant to
act as a bridge between the body and world. We rarely stop
to consider the hidden assumptions on which our everyday
environment is built.
Jacinda Walker, who is the founder and creative
director of designExplorr, an
organization that operates as a social enterprise to address the
diversity gap within the design profession, will be the
speaker for the sixth Alberini Family Speaker Series in
Design at UC Davis. Walker’s presentation will be “Changing the
Face of Design.”
Lesley-Ann Noel, an innovator in design
education research, will be the speaker for the fourth annual
Alberini Family Speaker Series in Design at UC Davis.
Presented by the College of Letters and Science’s Department of
Design, Noel’s lecture, “Envisioning Pluriversal Design,” will be
held online Nov. 6, 2020, from 11am-1pm PST. Advance registration
is required for the free talk.
Jenny E. Sabin, an architectural designer whose
work is at the forefront of a new direction for 21st century
architectural practice, will be the featured speaker in the
third Alberini Family Speaker Series in Design at UC Davis.
Damon Rich, an urban designer and visual artist,
and Rosten Woo, an artist, designer, and
writer, are the featured speakers in the Alberini Family
Speaker Series in Design at UC Davis on May 30. The pair discuss
“Building Power: Designing for Democracy Involving Communities in
Design.”
UC Davis Department of Design of the College of Letters and
Science and the UC Davis Graduate School of Management
present the inaugural UC Davis Alberini Family Speaker Series in
Design featuring Carlos Alberini, CEO, Lucky Brand and Kin Ying
Lee, Chief Creative Officer, Lucky Brand. The event will take
place in Vanderhoef Studio Theatre at the Robert and Margrit
Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday, May 10.

The Alberini Family Speaker Series is supported through
an endowment by the Carlos and Andrea Alberini Family Foundation.
It brings renowned innovators and thinkers in design to campus
and in virtual formats to inspire students and encourage
community engagement and learning.
