Color, creativity and craftsmanship are the key elements in the
footwear design by Chris Francis. The UC Davis Design Museum
installation “From Concept to Creation: Inspired Shoe Design
by Chris Francis” celebrates the work of this visionary artisan.
The exhibition showcases his work which combines global
shoemaking traditions and techniques, with references to the
built environment such as industrial design and brutalist
architecture as well as 20th-century art movements and punk rock.
Art and design intersect with the natural sciences at “Instinct
Extinct: The Great Pacific Flyway,” a multi-disciplinary art and
design installation that celebrates the biology, beauty, and
bounty of the Pacific Flyway. The exhibition at the UC Davis
Design Museum runs through Nov. 12.
The Pacific Flyway is viewed through a range of lenses: wildlife
habitat, agricultural heartland, recreational commons,
conservation story, and inspirational phenomena for artists,
writers and everyone in California and beyond.
Presenting the work of undergraduate seniors, this annual juried
exhibition celebrates the breadth, talent, creativity and
multidisciplinary coursework from the Department of Design.
