Elizabeth Kaino Hopper M.F.A.
2011
Elizabeth Kaino Hopper designs with textiles to address the world’s view of disabilities. She pioneered the application of Universal and Inclusive Design Theories to runway fashions that unify function with form. She blends able and disabled models into her runway shows thus challenging fashion’s view of female beauty. Kaino works solo in her Carmichael studio on new designs and custom orders, continuing to show her work and write for publications internationally. She keeps her intellectual interests alive as an editorial board member for Catwalk: Journal of Fashion, Beauty and Style, part of the Global Interdisciplinary Research series. She also volunteers many hours weekly working with women and men with various disabilities.
