Profile

Valerie Constantino
Interdisciplinary Artist and Writer

Valerie Constantino is a visual artist and writer, working in a range of traditional and contemporary hybrid art forms. Her seminal studies in textiles led to broad investigations on the subject of materiality and the malleable intersection of time and matter. These considerations prompted ongoing research on the mutable nature of ecosystems, societal systems and the physical and psychological substances of selves.

Constantino has exhibited her work nationally and abroad, published speculative essays on textile, and received a number of awards in support of her interdisciplinary practice. She holds a MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has taught and lectured at various academic institutions, most recently at California State University, Sacramento.

Beyond these pursuits, Valerie’s aesthetic sensibility stems from sublime encounters crossing diverse earthly and personal terrains. Of the qualities and forms of matter are the stories she tells. Originally from New York City, Constantino currently lives and works in northern California. Her work can be seen at: www.valerieconstantino.net.
