Susan Kaiser on the Politics of Fashion

Susan B. Kaiser, professor of design, gender, sexuality, and women’s studies, textiles and clothing, will give a talk at the Yolo County Historical Collection (Gibson House) in the “Knowledge at Noon” seminar series on Wed., March 11 from 12-1 p.m.

Kaiser’s presentation “Gender and Fashion: The Politics and Poetics of Women’s Dress” is in conjunction the with collection’s exhibition “Fashion Forward” which opens March 12 with a reception at 5:30 p.m. at Gibson House.

The exhibition celebrates the 100th anniversary of American women winning the right to vote and features historical photographs by Woodland photographer Paul W. Hollingshead along with period gowns, gloves, shoes and hats.

The installation was coordinated by alumni Bill and Sharon Dianne Hollingshead along with support from the UC Davis College of Letters and Science’s Department of Design, Yolo Arts (The Yolo County Arts Council) and The Yolo County Archives.

The exhibition is open on Saturdays March 14 and 28, April 11 and 25, May 9 and 23, and June 6 and 13. Monday through Friday is by appointment only. Gibson House is located at 512 Gibson Road in Woodland, CA. For information visit yoloarts.org.
