M.F.A. Industrial/Exhibit Design, 2016
Nikitaa Sivaakumar recently graduated with an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from NIT Tiruchirappalli, India. As part of her undergraduate internship, she worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Structural design, TU Braunschweig, Germany where she was involved in the structural design and optimisation of Ultra High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concrete structural members using Rhinoceros 3D.
For her final thesis submission during her undergraduate studies, she worked on Biomimicking the structure of a porcupine quill in the design of a light-weight column element. Her major interest lies in exploring the intersection of engineering and art through design. Her current focus is to explore this aspect by designing public art installations that address multiple concerns like the structural stability of the form, the aesthetics and the scope of interaction of the installation with the general public.
