The Music Department’s “Know Your Rights” Committee is
composed of a subset of faculty, graduate students, and
undergraduate students and will meet at least once a term
throughout the academic year. Diversity, equity,
and inclusion have been an important part of the Music
Department mission, and the department’s “Know Your Rights”
Committee seeks to build on this foundation and identify specific
areas of concern inside our program that need to be addressed and
remediated. The committee will offer anti-racist recommendations
and strategies to change various parts of the program, as well as
address a number of areas of bias that require attention and
possible remediation. These recommendations and strategies are
made with the intent to create a vital, intellectually supportive
environment that reflects the diverse, inclusive nature of the
study of music.
Students may contact faculty members of the Music
Department’s “Know Your Rights” Committee to discuss any
concerns, issues, or recommendations that they feel need to be
brought forward. Conversations will be confidential in accordance
with the UC
Davis policies on privacy and confidentiality.
