Design and Art History double major Jennifer Place has received national attention for winning the LEDvance Student Design, an annual competition in which students are tasked with designing, developing and producing a lighting fixture prototype.

Students were prompted to utilize indirect light, and LEDvance, the competition’s sponsor for the second year in a row, gave the students Sylvania Smart+ LED strips to work with and incorporate into their designs. Electrical Contractor profiles Place’s success. 

Place was also a recipient of the Department of Design’s Ola Lorens Memorial Travel Scholarship, a a competitive departmental grant that allows selected design majors to travel and thereby extend their studies around a focused project. Place’s winning project paired her backgrounds in art history and design to travel to collections including the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia and study their display practices.
