MFA Graduate Programs in
Theatre & Dance

The department of Theatre & Dance offers studies leading to the Master of Fine Arts degree in Dramatic Art. The M.F.A. is designed to provide a program of rigorous, advanced training and practice that enables mid-career artists to explore and expand skills in order to develop artistically and professionally. See link at left for detailed information.

The Ph.D. program in Performance Studies is an interdisciplinary Graduate Group. Many Performance Studies graduate students are teaching assistants in the department of Theatre & Dance.

Doctoral students gain advanced knowledge of twentieth and twenty-first century performance, including in acting, directing, design and choreography. Students graduate with the qualitative and quantitative skills necessary for professional research and teaching in performance criticism, history, media, theory, and practice. For detailed information, visit the Performance Studies website. While an M.A. degree may be obtained while pursuing the Ph.D. degree, only Ph.D. applications will be accepted. For details, visit the Graduate Studies website or go directly to their Performance Studies Program page.
