THEATRE GUMBO: ARE YOU LOVIN IT?
A satire of fast-food capitalism
The internationally award-winning performance troupe, THEATRE GUMBO will present their acclaimed work Are You Lovin It?, a satire of fast-food capitalism at 8 p.m. in Cruess 1002 on Monday May 11. Free and open to all.
Are You Lovin’ It? is set in an imaginary theme park, WacDonald’s Land, and explores the fast food industry as a symbol of globalisation and its global impact. The story delves into contemporary social issues in Japan. By blending traditional theatrical techniques like Kabuki and Japanese swordplay with modern pop culture elements such as Gothic Lolita, the production offers audiences a unique glimpse into contemporary Japanese culture.
The evening opens with an introduction by L.M. Bogad, professor of cinema and digital media.
Co-sponsored by the Davis Humanities Institute and the UC Davis Departments of Asian American Studies, Cinema and Digital Media, East Asian Languages and Cultures, East Asian Studies, Performance Studies and Theatre and Dance.
