Stephen Bingen
Music: Head Audio Engineer
Stephen Bingen is a Research Associate in the Department of Music and serves as the audio and video engineer for the Pitzer Center. In this role, Stephen manages all aspects of audio and video recording, live-streaming, sound reinforcement, and the digitization of archives for the department. He also offers support and guidance for student and faculty research projects in music composition.
Stephen majored in Music Education and Horn Performance at California State University, Sacramento, where he studied under Pete Nowlen. He has performed with the Sacramento Philharmonic, Camellia Symphony Orchestra, and various chamber groups. As a professional hornist, Stephen has appeared as a guest soloist with the California All-State High School Choir, Capitol Section Honor Choir, and Symphony D’Oro.
An accomplished recording engineer, Stephen specializes in location recording of classical and jazz music, among other genres. His past recording projects have garnered numerous accolades, including several Downbeat Music Awards and placements on Apple Music’s Classical A-list. Stephen is also a voting member of the Recording Academy (GRAMMYs).
