Art Studio Visiting Artist Lecture Series
Kathy Butterly (M.F.A., ‘90), who lives and works in New York, has exhibited internationally and her art is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art; The Detroit Institute of Arts; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and the de Young Museum, San Francisco. She has received a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, and a Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant.
Her first retrospective can be seen at the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art now through Dec. 29.
Butterly’s ceramics have strong historical roots in the work of California sculptors including her mentor, the late UC Davis professor Robert Arneson. The exhibition charts Butterly’s career through 70 works from the past 30 years highlighting the past decade and including pieces created for this exhibition. A full-color hardcover catalog will accompany the exhibition.
