Undergraduate Percussionist V. Leone Rivers receives Sacramento Saturday Club Scholarship
Saturday Club
The Sacramento Saturday Club has awarded UC Davis undergraduate music major V. Leone Rivers—a percussionist—a $500 scholarship. The Sacramento Saturday Club was organized on December 9, 1893. It is the oldest musical organization in Sacramento—and one of the oldest west of the Rockies. When established in 1893, the Sacramento Saturday Club’s fundamental mission was to promote and sustain the Sacramento area’s need and love for the greatest of the arts—music. It does this by providing monthly concert performances in member’s homes and supporting promising young musicians through scholarships.
Leone Rivers is a fifth-year music major at UC Davis specializing in percussion performance. Among Leone’s favorite recent performance was for Music for 18 at UC Davis. She has performed with the UC Davis Concert Band, Afro-Cuban Ensemble, Samba School, Percussion Ensemble, Marching Band, and UC Davis Symphony Orchestra, in addition to Symphony D’Oro Rancho Cordova and Camerata California. She has premiered pieces for UC Davis graduate composers, served as librarian and manager of the UC Davis Concert Band from 2017–19, and has conducted the Campus Band of UC Davis in two concerts.
