Sun Ny Vang

Sun Ny Vang (first name pronounced “Sunny”) is Moob Leeg (Blue Hmong). He was born and raised on the lands of the Dakota and Anishinaabeg peoples (currently occupied by the cities of St. Paul and Duluth, Minnesota), where he earned his BA in Vocal Music Education from The College of St. Scholastica. His graduate studies are routing him through the lands of the Patwin and Nisenan peoples (currently occupied by the cities of Davis and Sacramento, California). He is a PhD candidate in Music (Ethnomusicology) at UC Davis, with a Designated Emphasis in Native American Studies, where he also earned his M.A. in Music (Ethnomusicology) in 2020. His research focuses on Hmong musical practices in diaspora, particularly within the United States.
