Davin Rosenberg

Davin Rosenberg grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and is a PhD candidate in ethnomusicology at University of California, Davis. His research focuses on flamenco in the Americas wherein he explores musicking in the social (re)creation of space and sense of place; groove and performance temporalities; intersensory modalities, and transnational musicocultural flows and interrelationships. In his master’s thesis (Northern Arizona University), Davin explores various sociocultural issues and dimensions of performance, instruction, and tradition within the flamenco community in Phoenix, Arizona. He also presented a paper on “traditional” flamenco practice in Phoenix at the 2013 annual meeting of the Society for Ethnomusicology Southwest Chapter in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Davin’s ethnomusicological interests include, among others: flamenco music-making, dancing, and culture; US American jazz; musicking; sensory studies; acoustemology; choreomusicology; sociomusicology; rhythm and groove; analysis; nostalgia; temporality; place and space; diaspora; transnationalism; cultural affinity/adoption.

Davin is the editor of SEM Student News (a publication of the Society for Ethnomusicology), and has an MA in ethnomusicology (UC Davis), MMus in musicology (Northern Arizona University), and BA in instrumental performance (Bemidji State University). He is also an instrument repair technician and plays trumpet and flamenco guitar.
