Fifi Homan is a third year exchange student from Winchester, UK, studying American Literature. Despite being initially bemused as to what ‘half notes’ and ‘eighth notes’ could possibly be – and receiving similarly puzzled looks when she mentioned ‘minims’ and ‘quavers’ – she is delighted to be playing with UCDSO, and is simply glad she learned the American names for note values early on, as she fears if she had said ‘hemidemisemiquavers’ instead of ‘sixty-fourth notes’, she might have been laughed out of the Mondavi Centre.
