Concert Bands of UC Davis
In this program, undergraduate students are front and center. Among the works is a new piece by undergraduate band member Jason Chen (a physics major) called ”Noctilucence.” The title comes from a type of high-altitude cloud that has an ethereal shining quality that only happens at night. Other pieces on the program were written with the heavens in mind. Among them are Marquez’s “Paisajes Bajo el Signo de Cosmos” (“Landscapes Under the Sign of the Cosmos”) and Olivia Kieffer’s “…and then the universe Exploded.” John Mackey’s “Sheltering Sky” will be presented with a short film animated by Marc Russo. In the film, a character named Sebastian longs for adventure in the sky where the sun shines.
