Anushka Kulkarni
Anushka Kulkarni is a Ph.D. candidate in musicology at the University of California, Davis. Her research examines British-Indian colonial encounter as mediated through the musical-dramatic stage and explores topics spanning from eighteenth-century opera seria to Bengali gitinatya. Anushka has presented her research at various conferences, including the American Musicological Society, the North American British Music Studies Association, and the American Handel Society. Her work has been supported by the UC Davis Humanities Institute and the American Musicological Society Eugene K. Wolf Travel Endowment. As a Fulbright-Nehru research fellow for the 2024-25 academic year, Anushka is currently based in Kolkata, where she is conducting archival research and fieldwork for her dissertation. Alongside, she is studying Bengali at the American Institute of Indian Studies while also exploring the city’s best street food, one phuchka at a time.
