Art studio M.F.A. candidates present new work in an exhibition marking the culmination of their first year in the M.F.A. program at UC Davis. Particpating students include Nicole Irene Anderson, Jamal Gunn Becker, Cella Costanza, Josephine Devanbu, Brenton Haslam, Renee Lepreau, Jowel Taylor Murnan and Raquel Tripp.

A new two-person exhibition at Commonwealth and Council in Mexico City features the works of UC Davis Professors of Art Beatriz Cortez and Fidencio Fifield-Perez. Opening Aug. 17 at Commonwealth and Council, Shared Breath explores issues of migration, rootedness and time.

Professor Darrin Martin’s Crash Satellite was recently acquired by San Francisco Museum of Modern Art for its permanent collection.  

In collaboration with the nonprofit video arts distributor Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI), Professor Darrin Martin has published an article reflecting on his efforts to examine the EAI archive for videos exploring themes of disability or that engage modes of access like captioning and audio description.  This is Martin’s first attempt to review an archive for representations of disability and alternative modes of access with the intent of laying a groundwork for curations that tap into possibilities within accessibility formats.

A new exhibition by Luka Vergoz (M.F.A., ‘23) opens at the Pelota Gallery in San Francisco on Sunday, Aug. 18. Curated by Ginny Duncan, Curatorial Assistant at the Manetti Shrem Museum, “Part Ways” is an iterative, site-specific installation of work by Vergoz featuring Vergoz’s large-scale sculptural practice. Over the course of the show, Vergoz will continue to transform their work in the gallery—building worlds before our eyes. 

Hashimoto Contemporary turns ten this year and in celebration the gallery presents “10 Year Anniversary,” a group show featuring over 50 artists who have helped shape the Hashimoto Contemporary’s trajectory and success during the past decade. The anniversary exhibition celebrates a decade of shows, publications, and artists, including alum Anna Valdez (B.A. ‘09).

“10 Year Anniversary” is on view from Aug 3-31, 2024.

Axis Gallery’s 19th National Juried Exhibition “Am I Home?” features a new work by recent graduate and alum Elaine Nguyen (M.F.A. ‘24).

Justine Di Fiore (M.F.A. ‘23) is featured in the latest group show at Studio DDLA. ”MELT” features a collection of works inspired by the mind-altering heat of midsummer and the necessary, sometimes terrifying process of losing oneself in order to transform. 

On view from Aug. 2-25 with an opening reception from 6-9 pm.

April Camlin (M.F.A., ‘24) has been awarded a 2024-2025 Headlands Graduate Fellowship.

Kala Gallery’s latest exhibition “Where the Tree Grows” features new works by 2023-2024 Kala Fellowship and Media Residency artists.

Manetti Shrem Museum’s new exhibiton “Phillip Byrne, Beatriz Cortez, Kang Seung Lee, Candice Lin: Entangled Writing” is  an exhibition exploring the way that people and objects move across time and space, allowing for multiple potentialities to exist. 

“Future Dreaming, A Path Forward” is a new exhibition at the Montalvo Arts Center featuring fanciful and compelling art that invites viewers to imagine futures built upon the ancestral wisdom of multiple Indigenous heritages.
