Museum Studies Emphasis
The Museum Studies emphasis (20 units) combines study of the history of museums and museum theory with training in curatorship and exhibition development. Students gain perspective on the ethics of display, visitor experience, and the role of museums in their communities, and learn practical skills related to careers in museums and other arts organizations.
The Emphasis (for Art History majors) and the Minor (for non-majors) have identical requirements. Both consist of five upper-division courses chosen from the same list of options. Art History majors may count two of the Art History courses toward their major requirements, then take three courses beyond the 60-unit major to complete the Emphasis.
Internship Recommendation
Students are strongly urged to participate in internships (AHI 192) in order to broaden their knowledge and experience in the world of Art History. Go to the Internship and Career Center site for information.
