The Center earned a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Gold rating from the U.S. Green Building Council. Among the reasons:
Sites / Transportation
- Access to quality transportation and using existing campus parking in lieu of adding new.
- The campus storm water management provides off-site stream channel protection.
- The Arboretum Waterway captures and treats at least 90% of average annual rainfall.
Water Efficiency
- Water closets are low-flow and faucets are flow restrictive to provide water conservation.
- Fixtures use less than 37% water than standard equipment.
Energy Efficiency
- Working with the existing campus high pressure steam loop and chilled water helps the building achieve 23.5% better energy efficiency than the baseline model.
- Enhanced commissioning activities and a measurement and verification plan will help the building systems function effectively long term.
- Emission reduction for the mechanical systems.
Materials and Resources
- Diverted over 80% of construction waste away from landfill.
- Recycled removed concrete and asphalt from site.
- Used project materials with 11% both recycled and regional content.
- Over 90% of new wood products were sourced using sustainable practices.
