Deadline Extended: Online Auditions For Catalyst 2020
New Works Theatre Festival Season 4, 2020-2021
GFTF is being re-branded as Catalyst: A Think Tank Theatre, a unique and powerful theater development festival introducing new plays and musicals onto the national stage. Produced on the campus of UC Davis, it is a creative space where world-class theater artists and student actors meet to create important narratives in the American Theater.
We are excited to announce a new structure and schedule for Catalyst this year!
We are spreading the work throughout the school year, instead of concentrating the process into September. With fluidity in mind for these ever-changing times we are living in, we have created a schedule of readings, workshops, and production that will be malleable as needed. This schedule is also constructed in tandem with the academic calendar for UC Davis. Student actors will be cast in readings, table work, and/or productions. Technical student talent will be assigned projects with creative strengths and growth in mind.
Fall- Readings and Table work of 2 new pieces Oct. 2020
Winter- Readings/Table Work of 2 pieces Feb. 2021
Spring – full production of a new musical at the Vanderhoef Studio Theatre in the Robert and Magrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. Tentative music rehearsals March 15- 20, and production rehearsals during spring quarter, rehearsals in the evenings, as a T&D/Granada Artist-in-Residence department production, with performances in early June.
If you are interested in auditioning for Catalyst, we are accepting online submissions for students who have not been a company member of the Ground and Field Theatre Festival in past years. Please submit an email and video to mcoopergrenke@ucdavis.edu by June 14, 2020 to be considered for the upcoming season. We are looking for actors, as well as stage managers and creative and production staff.
The email should consist of:
1. Introducing yourself by name, major, minor, what year expected graduation from UC Davis.
2. A picture and bio, if you have one, of your theater and/or production experience.
Attach a video or attach the link (vimeo/youtube etc)
The video should consist of:
1. Telling us a little about yourself and why you want to be a part of Catalyst.
2. If you are interested in Acting: Please read a scene from one posted. Choose a scene that speaks to you, and have someone read the scene (off-camera). Also sing one minute of a favorite song, with recorded track playing, or Acapella if need be.
We will use these online submissions as First Calls, and will create callbacks and interviews from these submissions. Callbacks will be by Zoom, and enable us to dialogue and interact with you.
The UC Davis Department of Theatre and Dance is housed in the College of Letters and Science. For more information about additional performances, visit www.theatredance.ucdavis.edu.
