About the Artists
Unheard-of Ensemble is a Brooklyn-based clarinet, violin, cello, and piano quartet breaking boundaries between new music and the communities it serves. Through bold, multimedia programs that fuse technology, interactivity, and adventurous sound worlds, Unheard-of brings contemporary music to life across New York and the United States.
Dedicated to making new music a shared experience, the ensemble tours widely, commissions large-scale multimedia projects, and leads the Collaborative Composition Initiative (CCI) — its own summer workshop for emerging composers. Signature projects include the Dialogues series, which unites composers, artists, and audiences to explore the creative process, and Cultural Ecologies, an on-the-water partnership with the Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club that transforms Brooklyn’s Gowanus Canal into a stage for four multimedia concerts each year.
The 2025–2026 season celebrates eleven years of composer collaborations with premieres by Leila Adu, David Bird, Christian Quiñones, Annika Socolofsky, Matt McBane, and others. Highlights include a December Dialogues partnership with Tribeca New Music (December), an NYU residency and concert experience crafted in collaboration (April), and a summer Cultural Ecologies series featuring collaborations with Discocactus, Mehrnam Rastegari, and FLAPO. On tour, Unheard-of visits Oberlin, Ohio State University, Ohio University, and the Johnstone Fund (November), University of Missouri–Kansas City (February), and Florida universities including UCF, FSU, and UF (March).
