The Female Wits
Wright Hall Lab A
Female playwrights emerged in England in the mid-17th Century. Their plays, popular at the time, faded into obscurity until they were rescued in Ms. Fidelis Morgan’s groundbreaking 1981 book The Female Wits.
Ms. Morgan, currently in Davis at the Granada Artist-In-Residence, will perform the illustrated lecture, as originally commissioned by the National Theatre of Great Britain. She will be accompanied by 3 students from the UC Davis Theatre Department.
The show includes the social history, the biographies and extracts from the plays in a whirlwind tour of The Female Wits of the Restoration
