Sound Lab
Art Annex, 221 Cushing Way, Davis, CA 95616
The UC Davis Sound Lab is a place where students and faculty come together to make electronic music and sonic art. The Lab’s co-organizers are Bob Ostertag from the Cinema and Digital Media department and Sam Nichols from the Department of Music. Since the early 2000s we’ve been teaching a variety of classes on the creation of electronic music and sonic art.
Musical Instrument Collection
This collection includes pianos by Steinway and Baldwin, a Phillips harpsichord, a Klinkhammer harpsichord, a Schlicker pipe organ, a Brombaugh continuo organ, and a large assortment of early musical instruments in replica. It notably includes seldom-used instruments that are sometimes called for in specialized works. These include, for example, a contrabass clarinet, bass trumpet, two Lyon & Healy concert grand pedal harps, a 5+ octave marimba, and many other special instruments.
Achievement Awards
The Department of Music presents the following academic achievement awards annually.
