Jordan Benton (M.F.A. ‘23) and Whitney Vangrin (M.F.A. ‘22) will exhibit new works on June 28 at Confloptus. Jordan presents photographs from the project STACKS, depiction of prescribed burn piles, exploring the visual language of ecological intervention. Whitney shares new sculptures and video, featuring footage from the kelp restoration project at Bodega Bay Marine Lab and fermentation processes at The Cultured Pickle Shop in Berkeley.

The Brower Center’s annual local exhibition “Object [Im]Permanence” features graduate student Tara Daly and alum Irman Arcibal (M.F.A. ‘08).

The Basement Gallery and Open Walls Collective come together to celebrate art created by graduating art studio seniors in “Senior Art Meets Conversation: A Panel of Perspectives.” A discussion showcasing student artists and curators meet at the Pence Gallery on Saturday, June 7 from 6:00-9:00 p.m.

The first Boston Public Art Triennial features a commissioned work by Professor Beatriz Cortez. The Triennial presents 15 commissioned works by 15 artists selected and curated by Pedro Alonzo and Tess Lukey.

Professor Beatriz Cortez is featured in the new group show “Seeds: Containers of a World to Come” at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum at Washington University in St. Louis.

Professor Shiva Ahmadi will discuss her art and process in the Logan Lecture Series at the Denver Art Museum. The lecture is onsite May 6 from 6-7 pm; registration is required.

Since 2007, the Logan Lecture Series at the Denver Art Museum has presented talks by over 120 contemporary artists. 

The latest issue of DART Magazine features M.F.A. candidate Joel Murnan (‘25). Since coming to UC Davis, Joel has been developing a body of work that explores Genius Loci and monsters. The article, written by Livia Xie, examines Joel’s creative journey as well as his journey with monsters, scarecrows, myths, decays, new lives and privatization of land.

Art studio major Julietta Irace will participate in the UC Davis 36th Annual Undergraduate Research Scholarship and Creative Activities Conference on April 25-26. Julietta will present her painting “Motherhood” at the Arts and Design Exhibit from 1-5 p.m. on Friday, April 25 at the University Credit Union Center, UC Davis. Julietta is sponsored by Professor Robin Hill.

Congratulations to art studio major Julietta Irace whose art “Reflections” has been selected for publication in the 19th edition Matchbox Magazine.

Matchbox Magazine is a platform for undergraduate underrepresented student voices across the UC system, focusing on artists with a diversity of intersectional identities, experiences, and radical visions for expression. They publish visual art, prose, poetry, music, spoken word, sculptures, and spoken work in their annual publication.

Professor Fidencio Fifield-Perez has been selected for the latest edition of New American Painting (Issue 173, Midwest). Fifield-Perez, along with 40 other artists, were chosen by juror Rosario Güiraldes. New American Paintings presents six juried competitions each year, selecting 40 artists for each issue. Winners receive a four-page color spread in New American Paintings.
