Overview

Traveling to Davis
Davis is a city that lies 20 miles west of the capital of California, Sacramento. It is also 80 miles from San Francisco and Lake Tahoe.

Hotels in Davis

Depending on your preferences in proximity to your specific destination on campus, there are a number of options. The Hyatt Place Hotel is situated on the campus, near the Conference Center, the Mondavi Center, and near the arts buildings on campus. Very near to the downtown area and the arts buildings on campus is the Aggie Inn. Very near to the downtown area and the Amtrak train station is the Hallmark Inn. Other downtown hotels include the Best Western University Lodge, the Best Western Palm Court, and an Econo Lodge.

Flying

Sacramento International Airport (SMF) is the closest airport as it is only a 30-minute drive to Davis. The Davis Airporter is a frequently-used shuttle service. Please note, however, that flying into Sacramento’s airport almost always requires a connection when traveling from one side of the country to the other. Sacramento has many direct flights from cities in the West, from cities such as Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake City, Denver, Los Vegas, and Phoenix.

Bay Area airports—including San Francisco International (SFO), Oakland (OAK) and San Jose (SJC)—may be of interest, depending on the city of origin. These airports often provide direct flights from major East Coast cities.  San Francisco International is the closest airport that provides direct international flights.

Getting from San Francisco to Davis using public transportation requires taking an airport train to the BART station (Bay Area Rapid Transit), which can take one to Richmond, CA, and then transfer to an Amtrak “Capital Corridor” train, which will go to Davis. This journey takes approximately three hours. There are, of course, some shuttle services, including the Davis Airporter, that service this route.
