Danielle Torvik earned her studio arts BFA from San Jose State University in 2017. Her nonrepresentational oil paintings stem from her explorations with the versatility and unpredictability of paint. She uses brushes, squeegees, sticks, dustbins, and any object that can transfer paint. She sometimes works flat and puddles and pours a mixture of paint and mineral spirits. Sometimes she tilts the canvas or pushes and pulls the liquid with the edge of a wooden frame. After employing methods of unpredictability, she uses a more critical eye to insert structure, form, space, and depth.
