Jesse Genepi’s paintings are constructed utilizing a curated digital archive of images influenced by fantasy, science fiction, astrology, esoterica and queer aesthetics. Working within a collage tradition with roots in the cut up technique – Images are obliterated using editing software to be later reanimated and layered together into the physical world as densely layered paintings. This syncretic reanimation process plays into the thought of artist-as-alchemist and incorporates a variety of materials such as oil paint, acrylic polymer, crushed quartz, collage, glass, glitter, and iridescent pigments; with the intention of generating an encoded visual lore to be decrypted by the viewer.
