Bio

Merging experimental ethnography and performance, Jamie’s dissertation regards mediumship and danced spirit possession in Afro-Brazilian religions. Her creative practice also involves experimental and performative modes of writing about/with/as embodied practices. Jamie holds a B.A. in Philosophy, an M.A. in Humanities, an M.A. in Literature, and a Ph.D. in Performance Studies. She is proud to have been a DPDF Fellow in Afro-Atlantic Studies (Social Science Research Council) and a Fulbright Fellow. She is also the winner of the Dwight Conquergood Award (2025, Performance Studies International). Her writing has received accolades including the Society for Humanistic Anthropology’s Ethnographic Poetry Prize and SHA’s President’s Award for Graduate Writing (first prize).
