Music by Aida Shirazi Performed Onair and Online

Works by Aida Shirazi, a doctoral student in music composition, are featured on several recent and upcoming live or recorded online concerts.

Her “albumblatt” will be part of a concert by pianist Sarah Cahill broadcast on BBC Radio on Nov. 20. It is part of Cahill’s “The Future is Female” project that commissioned works by women composers from around the world.

The composer’s “Après…” will include in a Dec.16, twelve-hour concert by pianist Yael Weiss celebrating the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth. It is part of Weiss’s “32 Bright Clouds “32 Bright Clouds: Beethoven Conversations Around the World”,” a global music-commissioning, performing, and recording project.

Shiraz’s “Orbis” music video was presented online Nov. 15 and commissioned as part of the Long Beach Opera’s “2020 Songbook.” The electroacoustic work uses synthesized and recorded sounds, text by Omar Khayyam spoken in Persian by Shirazi, with the video created by Qmars Kalami. The video can be seen through Nov. 22. Tickets are available through Long Beach Opera.
