Alum Mercy Hawkins Exhibits at Pence Gallery
Waltz of Life & Limb at the Pence Gallery in Davis pairs recent sculptural paintings by alum and artist Mercy Hawkins (MFA, Maria Manetti Shrem Art Studio Program, '21), with her vibrant, large-scale watercolors on paper. With this work, Hawkins seeks to answer the internal call, to encounter what the body already knows, from our own inner rhythms, heartbeat, and breath, to dancing with wild arms. Her biomorphic shapes, formed of intersecting dots, dashes, and lines, speak to a sensory play of color, light, and movement. Her imagery evokes seed pods, flower buds, or microscopic creatures, immersing the viewer in an all-encompassing perception of nature. Runs through Nov. 6.
In conjunction with the installation, Hawkins will give an artist talk at the gallery on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m.
The Pence Gallery is located at 212 D Street, Davis, CA and is open Tue-Sun 11:30am-5pm.
