Alum and Lecturer Michele Apriña Leavy Appears in West Coast Premiere

Alum and Senior Continuing Lecturer Michele Apriña Leavy is appearing in the West Coast premiere of "Manning" by Benjamin Benne. The work is presented by San Francisco's Crowded Fire Theatre, a critically acclaimed company for new play production on the West Coast. 

Running Sept. 5-26 at Potrero Stage in San Francisco, the play centers on a father and his sons who have spread the ashes of his wife/their mother in their backyard garden. When a giant zucchini manifests overnight, they each begin to develop language for their individual experiences of loss through their interactions with the supernatural vegetable.

Michele Apriña Leavy is a professional actor and theatre educator, who has performed locally with such companies as the American Conservatory Theater, Alameda Civic Ballet, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, The Bay Area Playwrights’ Festival, BRAVA Theater Center, California Shakespeare Theater, Center Repertory Company, Livermore Shakespeare Festival, Marin Theatre Company, The San Francisco Playhouse, and TheatreWorks Silicon Valley, among others. In farther locales, she has appeared with Theatre Key West (Florida), The Elephant Theatre Company (Los Angeles) and Theatre 167 (New York City). 

In the role of Choreographer/Movement Director she has collaborated with various companies around the bay and beyond. As a teaching artist she has taught throughout the Bay Area for the American Conservatory Theatre, the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre, Foothill College, and has both instructed and directed for Cañada College.

Michele is a Resident Artist with Crowded Fire Theater, and serves on their Literary Committee. She also serves on the Steering Committee for the Latinx Theater Commons, a national movement and flagship program of Howlround.

She holds a BA in Drama from UC San Diego and earned her MFA in 1994 from the former Professional Actor Training Program at UC Davis.
