The Mighty Wallops came together in 2024 over a shared love for early jazz and blues. After woodshedding the songs of Cab Calloway, Louis Armstrong, Bessie Smith, and Lead Belly, they started reinventing contemporary pop hits in 1920s style (a la Postmodern Jukebox) and composing their own quirky originals.

With nods to the Squirrel Nut Zippers, the Wallops' lyrics cover a wide range of offbeat topics, as evidenced by titles like The Vampire Tango, Little Green Men From Outer Space, and You're Cat Will Eat Your Body When You Die. The Mighty Wallops are a rare kind of band that can be legitimately described as both totally traditional and totally unconventional.
