Celine Caliskaner

Celine Caliskaner is a textile artist, designer, educator, and researcher based in California. Her interdisciplinary practice explores the intersections of textile design, materiality, craft, and contemporary making. Drawing on extensive training in textile and fashion design, she combines traditional textile processes with experimental approaches to color, structure, surface, and material development.

Celine’s areas of expertise include weaving, dyeing, screen printing, digital printing, textile construction, surface design, and material experimentation. Her research and studio practice investigate the relationship between material, process, structure, and design, with a focus on developing innovative and handcrafted textile surfaces and materials for apparel and interior applications.

With international experience in textile design, product development, higher education, and creative practice, Celine brings a material-driven and research-informed approach to teaching. Her pedagogy emphasizes experimentation, technical exploration, critical thinking, and the integration of traditional craft knowledge with contemporary textile technologies.

Celine teaches DES 161 — Textile Surface Design: Screen & Digital Printing, where students explore screen and digital printing processes as tools for developing experimental textile surfaces and translating concepts into material and visual outcomes.
