Professor Cortez in show at Performance Space
“Beatriz Cortez & Candice Lin” is a new exhibition at Performance Space featuring works deeply engaged with the histories of colonialism and migration across time and space. Associate Professor Beatriz Cortez and Candice Lin are both artists whose work challenges viewers to see non-human objects through the lens of performance and to consider objects as beings with agency.
Cortez presents two works in this exhibition: ”The Time Machine” and “The Fortune Teller.” Both works are interactive and visitors are invited to engage with them. Cortez’s works create portals that evoke immigrant experiences of yearning and simultaneity: living in one place but inhabiting the reality of an origin city — the constant overlap of disparate times and locations in a person’s life.
“Beatriz Cortez & Candice Lin” runs from April 25 to June 9 in the Neilma Sidney Theatre. An opening reception will be held on April 25 from 6:30-8:30 pm.
