Exhibition curated by Professor Cortez selected among best shows of 2025

“Temporary Home,” an exhibiton curated by Professor Beatriz Cortez at the Galka Scheyer House in LA, was selected by Hyperallergic among the best exhibitions around the world for 2025.

“Temporary Home” was on view from July 18-27 while Professor Cortez was an artist-in-residence with the Blue Heights Arts and Culture at the Galka Scheyer House in the Hollywood hills. Cortez, who had recently been displaced by the Eaton Fire, explored the house’s history as a refuge for Scheyer who migrated from Europe during World War II and settled in the Hollywood hills to create a cultural refuge for visiting artists. In “Temporary Home,” Cortez connected these histories to the stories of displacements in our current moment. Featured in the exhibition were works by Cortez, Sarah Espinoza, Phillip Byrne (M.F.A. ‘22), Tatiana Guerrero, rafa esparza, Maria Maea and Marjorie Williams (M.F.A. ‘26).
