Alum Kelley O’Leary awarded scholarship at School of Poetic Computation
Kelley O’Leary (M.F.A., ‘22) recently received a scholarship to participate in a class through School for Poetic Computation in New York. Inspired by her project “Clouds of the American West” (2021), O’Leary built a server for the course Solidarity Infrastructures taught by Alice Yuan Zhang and Max Fowler. Solidarity Infrarstructure employed workshops and seminars toenable participants to learn how to install, operate, and maintain a self-hosted server in their communities. Students applied concepts such as “computing in place” and “always already infrastructuring” to their specific locale.
The purpose of O’Leary’s server, which will eventually run on solar, is a to support an internet version of Slow Wave Radio, an experimental hyper-local radio station developed in her exhibition “Slow Connection” at Pallas Gallery this past in February.
