Winter Granada Artist-in-Residence John Jasperse creates and
directs Beyond Belief. The new work will explore the nature of
truth and illusion. It will address both the properties and
results of beliefs and belief systems and the processes involved
in their construction, re-evaluation and development.
Jasperse’s new work will consider both the potentially
uncomfortable and often disconcerting inconsistencies that abound
in the real that can at times catalyze one to reject it versus
the relative neatness, clarity, and comfort that the false can
sometimes bring. The work will explore heresy, radical ideas,
perceived delusional thoughts and behavior, and just plain
nonsense as powerful tools, which can paradoxically hold us back
and alternately incite transformational growth.
As Artistic Director/Choreographer for the John Jasperse Company,
Jasperse continues to build a growing presence on the
international contemporary dance scene. His choreography engages
its audiences in rich and innovative aesthetic and intellectual
experiences, thereby expanding the form of contemporary concert
dance and its relevance to the greater culture.
The Jasperse choreography world premieres March 6-8 and March
13-15 in Main Theatre.
