Catherine Castellanos (she/her), an actor, director, and teaching artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area, is the Granada Artist-in-Residence for Fall 2026. She will direct Octavio Solis’s Mother Road. 

Her extensive experience as a theatre artist spans 14 seasons with California Shakespeare Theatre as an associate artist, 7 seasons with Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and 25 years as a company member with San Francisco’s Magic Theatre resident theatre company Campo Santo, where Castellanos has worked closely with writers and playwrights developing and performing in numerous world premiers. Castellanos directed Campo Santo’s production The Travelers which premiered at The Magic and also had a production in Los Angeles receiving one of the top 10 productions of the year from the LA Times. 

Castellanos regional work as an actor include American Conservatory Theatre, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Yale Rep, La MaMa in NY, The Lensic, The National Museum of the American Indian in DC, to name a few. 

As a teaching artist, Castellanos has worked with students ranging in age from 11-70+. The lessons include directing youth in abridged Shakespeare productions, teaching acting and script analysis to adults at the Jean Shelton Actors Lab in SF, at Berkeley Rep, and directing the spring production at Saint Mary’s College of California. 

Catherine has explored restorative justice through the healing power of storytelling in leading and directing a group of formerly incarcerated young women with Rising Voices in creating, scripting, and directing their production in San Francisco. She continued her work with restorative justice with the men in blue at San Quentin state prison, performing and mentoring within an original play scripted by an incarcerated member of the healing group No More Tears.
