Susan Abplanalp is the Founder, Owner and CEO of Emery Street
Inc.
Emery Street Inc. is a
Consulting Service in the Global Garment Industry. This includes
Original Design, Illustration, Development and Technical Design,
Pattern making, Private Label Production, and Fitting.
Previously, Susan worked in the Corporate Garment industry at Gap
Inc. as the Sr. Manager for Banana Republic Technical Design
Services. In addition to running her own business, Susan teaches
as a lecturer at the California College of the Arts, and a
continuing lecturer at UC Davis.
Susan Abplanalp teaches DES 014: Design
Illustration and DES 171: Fashion Illustration.
Studio—4 hours; lecture/discussion—2 hours. Prerequisite:
DES 1 (may be taken concurrently) or consent of instructor;
students with a background in drawing or Advanced Placement Art
Studio units are encouraged to submit a portfolio for review to
waive this course. Priority given to Design majors. Drawing as a
tool for design. Basic skills in objective observation and
representation, including line, shape, tone, and space. Drawing
as a tool for formulating and working through design problems.
Studio—4 hours; lecture/discussion—2 hours. Prerequisite:
DES 1, 14 (or 21), 15, 16 (14 Recommended) or consent of
instructor. Priority to Design majors. Exploration of fashion
design processes for industry within the social and physical
context. Emphasis on two-dimensional conceptualization of ideas,
garment construction, and ideation processes utilizing commercial
textiles. Field trip required.
Susan Abplanalp designed and produced these Dresses (including
Fabric Design) for Chico’s FAS the Boston Proper Division.
The Designs are original and were presented for review to the
Boston Proper Team. They chose these from a look book that was
presented to them with these Designs as well as many others,
tailored especially for their brand.
