Ferguson and Maiorana Awarded Community Engaged Learning Faculty Fellowships
Public Scholarship and Engagement recently announced their 2021 Community Engaged Learning Faculty Fellows. Among the recipients are Design faculty members Assistant Professor Beth Ferguson and Assistant Professor Thomas Maiorana.
This UCD cohort-based program is organized around monthly meetings and mentorship to support individuals working to fully integrate this learning approach into existing courses and new curricular experiences. Fellows address a specific need, problem or common concern, include collaboration with a community partner that is connected with course content and disciplinary perspectives, and require ongoing and documented student reflection. Proposed courses this year focus heavily on equity and justice, a theme which many fellows believe necessitates engagement to help students better understand how these issues impact communities, and bring in community members knowledge and perspectives.
