Design Class Re-imagines Future Train Travel
Dec. 5
The UC Davis Department of Design and the Capitol Corridor have partnered for a class project where students have re-imagined the Capitol Corridor on-board train experience. On December 5, students will present the results of their research at Davis City Council Chambers, 23 Russell Blvd, Davis, CA beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Using research conducted on board trains in October and November 2019, the hands-on projects were to re-imagine the on-board train experience of the Capitol Corridor, which could contribute to future planning by the rail service that provides service between San Jose and Sacramento/Auburn.
Taught by Associate Professor Thomas Maiorana, the course introduced students to a human-centered approach to problem solving (often referred to as design thinking). The course allows students to work on real-world projects and to develop an understanding of design thinking and various methods of creative problem solving. The course incorporated fundamental readings in design thinking, interactive design methods and processes, and hands-on projects.
