Alums curate show at the Latino Center of Art and Culture
A new group show curated by Manuel Fernando Rios (M.F.A., 2011 ) and Jose Arenas (M.F.A., 2000) at The Latino Center of Art and Culture opens in Sacramento on March 11.
“What You Give” showcases the artworks of six Sacramento area artist-educators — Gina Aparicio, Sandi Escobar, Eddie Lampkin and Elyse Doyle Martinez — alongside a selection of their students. These educators use art to foster youth development at UC Davis, TANA (Woodland), Sierra College (Rocklin), Woodland Community College and Cache Creek High School (Woodland). “What You Give” presents a dialogue between these Chicana/o/x teachers and the students they instruct, going beyond the technical aspects of visual arts education into ideas of mentorship, community and a diversity of visual expression.
“What You Give” is on view from Saturday, March 11 to Friday, April 28, 2023 with an opening reception on Saturday, March 11 5-8 p.m.
