Alumna Contributes to Afrofuturistic Anthology

Alumna Raissa Simpson (M.F.A, dramatic arts, ‘16) has written Writings on Dance: Artistic Reframing for Celestial Black Bodies which has been included in the Afrofurturistic anthology Critical Black Futures: Speculative Theories and Explorations.

In addition, a dance video by Simpson is included in the 2021 Sacramento State University’s Festival of the Arts’ Dance Sampler on April 10, 16 and 18.

Raissa Simpson is a choreographer, teacher, and the Artistic Director of PUSH Dance Company in San Francisco. After receiving her BFA from the Conservatory of Dance at SUNY Purchase, Simpson had an extensive performance career in the San Francisco Bay Area dancing with Robert Moses’ Kin and Joanna Haigood’s Zaccho Dance Theatre, among others.
