Caro Novella
Performance Studies
Artist-researcher working at the intersection of dance and improvisation, body installation, visual poetry, collaborative dramaturgy, text composition and performance art. Interested in co.creation and movement scores as relational study Caro cultivates rehearsal as method to ignite inquiry and connect people to questions that matter while crafting performance pieces.
Her work insists, since the late 90’s, on devising collaborative actions around touchy matters. Centering on cancer and trans feminism, in 2011, founded the performance project oncogrrrls. Touched by toxicities and curious about multispecies intimacies, she is currently involved in Scoring Cow (a dance-creation with cows) in collaboration with Kevin O’connor and in cosensing, an emerging platform for multispecies collaborative art actions training togetherness in damaged worlds.
Holds an MA in communication with a specialization in dance for social change (Ohio University) and is currently finishing her PhD in Performance Studies at University of California, Davis, focusing on Practice as Research. Her dissertation on.co-creations explores rehearsal as collaborative tool with potential to unsettle oncological relations.
