Alumna Creates Unique Recycling Business
While at UC Davis, Christina Johnson learned the university’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. As a proud Aggie, Johnson has developed a business Upcycle It Now, which has encompasses that theory.
While majoring in Design it was at UC Davis that Christina took her first class in sustainability with Ann Savageau. From then on she knew sustainable design was her calling, so she is proud to circle back and be able to upcycle a piece of her campus she holds in such high regard.
To show her Aggie pride, Johnson has created a UC Davis product line which is made from old campus banners.
The mission of Upcycle It Now is “to promote local jobs, to create a second life for used materials, and to make beautiful and useful products.”
The company believes in a triple bottom line were social and environmental issues are just as important as profits. We also believe that no matter how good of a story and background a product has it must be nice to look at, easy to use, and long lasting. We hope to help educate about waste management and all the possibilities that there are for reducing, reusing, and upcycling.
